BJ40-1

On May 21, BAIC officially launched the BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition, positioning it as a "super extended-range intelligent hardcore SUV." The new lineup includes three variants. Centered around the three core strengths of technology empowerment, safety as protection, and dual-purpose capability for both urban and off-road driving, the BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition ushers in a new era of long-range hardcore off-road SUVs.

Boxy Body-on-Frame Design with Uncompromising Hardcore Styling

BJ40-4

The BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition continues the classic boxy off-road design language, with body dimensions of 4790/1940/1964 mm and a 2760 mm wheelbase. Its 1964 mm height stands nearly 20 cm taller than most urban SUVs, giving it a commanding stance and excellent visibility over obstacles.

The front fascia features the signature five-slot grille, inspired by the battlements of the Great Wall, paired with a raised hood and circular LED light signature that blend rugged strength with urban sophistication.

Frameless doors, 20-inch tomahawk-style wheels, an externally mounted spare tire, and F-shaped taillights ensure that every iconic hardcore off-road design element is present.

With an approach angle of 38°, departure angle of 37°, 215 mm ground clearance, and a factory-rated 750 mm wading depth, the vehicle is equally capable of handling urban parking garages and rugged wilderness streams with ease.

intelligent driving

In terms of intelligent driving, the vehicle is equipped with 11 high-definition cameras and 3 millimeter-wave radars, supporting features such as a transparent chassis, 540-degree panoramic imaging, L2 driver assistance, and Traffic Light Assist (TLA). These systems provide strong driving confidence in both urban commuting and complex road conditions.

1,300 km Combined Range - A Full Week of Commuting Without Refueling

Range is the biggest highlight of the BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition. Equipped with CATL's "Xiaoyao" off-road-specific battery, the vehicle delivers a CLTC pure electric range of 252 km, allowing most urban users to complete an entire week of commuting with virtually zero fuel consumption. With a full tank and full charge, the combined range exceeds 1,300 km, providing strong confidence for long-distance cross-province journeys. The range extender achieves a power generation efficiency of up to 97.5%, with a peak output of 115 kW and a continuous output of 90 kW, far exceeding conventional household range extenders and ensuring stable performance even under extreme driving conditions.

Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes just 13.9 minutes, meaning the vehicle can recover more than half its charge in the time it takes to enjoy a cup of coffee. The front and rear dual-motor full-time AWD system enables 0–100 km/h acceleration in just 5.1 seconds, giving this hardcore off-roader sports-car-like acceleration performance.

Triple Differential Locks Deliver Class-Leading Off-Road Capability

BJ40-11

The true soul of a hardcore off-roader lies in its chassis. The BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition adopts a body-on-frame structure with an integrated two-longitudinal, eight-crossmember chassis design, paired with a dedicated 7-in-1 off-road drive system, reducing overall vehicle weight by approximately 20%.

The front and rear dual motors enable millisecond-level torque distribution, delivering response speeds far beyond those of traditional mechanical four-wheel-drive systems. With an energy center lock combined with front and rear axle mechanical differential locks, all three locks can be engaged simultaneously. Even if three wheels completely lose traction, the vehicle can still recover using only a single wheel with grip. The two-speed rear motor pushes wheel-end torque up to 11,000 N·m, while the 12-speed crawl mode covers speeds from 1–12 km/h. Together with tank turn functionality and 11 ATS all-terrain driving modes, the BJ40 can confidently tackle everything from sand dunes to rocky terrain - allowing even beginners to climb obstacles with the confidence of experienced off-road enthusiasts.

Four-Layer Comprehensive Protection - A Mobile Safety Fortress

Safety is the one area where the BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition refuses to compromise. Its integrated two-longitudinal, eight-crossmember frame structure provides a rigid foundation, while the military-grade cage body uses 13 independent rigidity rings to disperse collision impacts.

The factory-integrated metal roll cage is manufactured using a one-piece hydraulic forming process, delivering a roof compressive strength of up to 130,000 N.

The CATL Xiaoyao battery offers impact resistance reaching eight times the national standard and vibration resistance up to six times the national standard. The battery pack is further protected by external Basalt Armor shielding and manganese steel skid plates for all-around protection.

This four-layer comprehensive safety system ensures that the vehicle is not only capable of taking you to explore the world, but also bringing you back safely.

BJ40-12

The BAIC BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition is not simply about adding a larger battery. Instead, it represents a more comprehensive balance between hardcore off-road capability, intelligent cockpit technology, comfort features, and long-range performance. It retains the BJ40 family's classic boxy design, externally mounted spare tire, and full-time four-wheel-drive system, while further expanding its practicality for daily commuting and long-distance travel through a 252 km pure electric range, 1,300 km combined range, and fast-charging capability. With its official launch, the BJ40 Extended-Range Long-Range Edition may well become another highly noteworthy contender in the new energy off-road vehicle market.
