As the most distinctive model in the Tank brand lineup, the Tank 400 stands out with its signature "mecha-style" design language, which serves as its core differentiating feature. Combined with multiple powertrain options, it caters to a wide range of usage scenarios and appeals to users who seek both strong off-road capability and everyday practicality. Recently, the updated Tank 400 was officially launched, continuing to offer both gasoline and plug-in hybrid powertrains, while introducing the Hi4-Z version for the first time. At the same time, comprehensive upgrades have been made to design details and intelligent driver-assistance systems, further enhancing overall product competitiveness.

The new Tank 400 New Energy lineup includes three variants in total, comprising two Hi4-T versions and one Hi4-Z version. Given that the Hi4-T is the core sales model of the Tank 400, this article focuses on a comparison between the high-spec Hi4-T versions of the new and previous Tank 400 New Energy models, providing a clearer view of the changes and upgrades in terms of equipment and features.

In terms of exterior design, the new and old Tank 400 models largely maintain the same overall styling. The highly recognizable mecha-inspired design, with sharp lines and exposed rivet elements, clearly highlights its rugged SUV positioning. The updates on the new model are mainly focused on details. The two sides of the front bumper have been changed from the upward-angled design of the previous model to a straighter layout, which is more seamlessly integrated with the front bumper and looks more harmonious overall. The lower skid plate has also been revised, featuring a cleaner and more minimalist design compared with the old version.

In addition, the new model adds a periscope-style LiDAR at the front of the roof and is equipped with the Coffee Pilot Ultra driver-assistance system, enabling a wide range of advanced functions such as urban NOA and highway NOA.

In terms of exterior-related features, the new model introduces a battery preheating function, which helps optimize battery performance in low-temperature environments. It also comes with driver-assistance indicator lights that alert other road users when the assistance system is active. However, one drawback is that the previously available opening panoramic sunroof on the old model has been downgraded to a conventional electric sunroof on the new model, which is somewhat disappointing.

Changes on the side profile are more subtle. The new model adds a camera on the front fender, providing a wider field of view. Practical features such as the roof rack and electric side steps are retained, meeting the needs of outdoor camping while still ensuring everyday convenience.

In terms of dimensions, although the new model is slightly shorter in length, both its width and height have increased. As for the wheels and tires, the new and old models remain the same, featuring blacked-out multi-spoke wheels paired with 265/65 R18 tires.

The new model adopts a rear bumper design similar to the front, and the enlarged overall area gives the vehicle a more solid and substantial visual presence. In addition, the mounting mechanism for the externally mounted spare tire has been simplified, leaving more of the tire exposed, which makes removal more convenient compared with the previous model.

Although the overall cabin layout of the new and old Tank 400 remains similar, the changes are quite significant in practice. First, the new model eliminates the traditional electronic gear selector and adopts an electronic column-mounted shifter. This not only frees up more space beneath the center console, but also allows additional physical controls to be repositioned there, resulting in a clearer and more intuitive functional layout. Secondly, the new model replaces the wide-format display used in the previous version with a more mainstream 15.6-inch slim-bezel central touchscreen. In addition, a new 15.6-inch rear roof-mounted entertainment screen has been added, delivering an enhanced audio-visual experience for rear passengers.

In terms of powertrain, the new Tank 400 continues to offer both gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions. The models included in this comparison are all equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 2.0T turbocharged engine and a front-mounted single electric motor. Specifically, the engine has undergone minor changes, with only slight adjustments to the maximum power speed. Regarding the electric motor, the new model boasts higher total power and torque figures than the previous model, resulting in a significant improvement in overall performance. As for the battery, the new model only offers one type of ternary lithium battery, but the WLTC combined driving range has increased from 800km to 913km, while fast charging time has been shortened and refueling efficiency is higher.
